Everyone experiences stress to a certain degree in everyday living. There are types of good stress, and then there is the bad kind. The negative kind is the kind that is just down right too much to handle. Stress can happen at any time and cause an array of health problems. When you are experiencing negative stress, your body's internal organs have to work even harder to keep you going. Stress ages us very quickly, quicker than you would like to think. If you put a picture of two different individuals next to each other, one who lived a high-impact, demanding life without much care for themselves, and the other one who's life was of the lower impact variety and who took very good care of themselves, there is a definite chance that you would be able to tell one from the other. When your body is stressed, your health is the first to go.

Taking care of yourself by exercising is a positive kind of stress that counteracts the bad kind. When you set aside times during your week to exercise, you are giving back to yourself so that you can keep going. Working out is an essential part of what gives us great health and longer, happier lives. Exercise should be a top priority for the entire human race in this day and age. It increases your stress threshold, strengthens your body inside and out, and it keeps you young. With all the demands that the human race faces in this day and time, it is no wonder that we are overweight. Perhaps you are one of those people who feel like there does not seem to be enough time in the day to exercise. If this is true for you, then you are not alone. The bad news is that if you want to improve your health and state of mind, th
en you are going to have to arrange a time for exercise in your schedule. That is why it is called a priority. It needs to be in your schedule. Once you begin exercising regularly, you have won half the battle.

There is no question about it, stress causes weight gain. When we are stressed, we reach for what is fast and easy because we are too busy being stressed to think about preparing a nice, healthy meal. We either jump in our cars to drive up to the nearest burger and fry stop, or we grab the quickest most satisfying thing in sight. Typically, what is satisfying when we are stressed is usually not good for us. The best way to avoid these types of behaviors is to avoid eating out at fast food restaurants, and to keep the sweets out of our kitchen. These habits can cause a lot of weight gain, especially over a period of time. A better way to approach the need for comfort during times of stress would be to call a friend, make notes in your journal about what is bothering you, or go for a walk. If you must snack while you are stressed, try a healthy snack like pistachios. They taste good and are good for you. You may also snack on carrot sticks or sugar free jello. Dark chocolate is also a good choice because of all of the positive health benefits, but just be sure to snack in moderation.

To sum it all up, you can either make stress work for you or against you. It is all about how you prefer to cope with it. Eating at fast food restaurants may be the quickest fix for your stress frenzy, but your body is not going to you in the end. So in actuality, you are hurting yourself even more by eating unhealthy while you are stressed. While just sitting there in front of the television may seem like the easiest way, getting up and doing something about it is the smarter, more effective way.
