A short list of activities for an advanced student...

How to use Facebook to Improve English Language Classes (Tips for Traveling Teachers)
Here's a problem that many traveling teachers face:  You have decided to travel the world by teaching English along the way.  Some of the students in your class is bored and they complained to the director fot he school.  What do you do to turn around the situation?

===============

Solution:  Write a letter to the student:

Dear [student]

I'm glad that you are interested in creating a more powerful class for yourself.

1.)  Do you have articles that you have already translated?  I could put them on my web site.   If you create articles or if you translate articles, you can be called 'a content provider."   In addition to being a translator, you can create a list of clients.   Perhaps you can find five  articles on these web sites:  http://www.roadlovers.com and http://www.freeeenglishlessons.com ---   if you translate the articles, I can put "Translated by (YOUR NAME)t" on the article and that will be part of your portfolio.

2.)   let's turn over a new leaf.  (That's a new expression for you, we hope).   Do you want to learn some new idioms?

You can look at this list and find idioms that you don't understand  and try to convert the idioms into French.   http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/t.html

Here is an explanation of this idiom:  http://www.goenglish.com/TurnOverANewLeaf.asp

here is a good place to start learning new idioms

WIKIPEDIA has an enormous list that you can start with:
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:English_idioms

3.)  Do you have a good idioms dictionary?  Do you prefer an English only dictionary or an English-to-French dictionary?

That's a lot of work, but I'm sure you can do it!   If you have other ideas about how to make good use of the next six weeks, tell me.

================

(THIS REALLY HAPPENED.  The student started translating at a local wb site and everybody was happy with the new direction in the class.  This is a question of focussing on the passions and interests of the student.)   You can learn more by going to the "TEACHERS" section of http://www.freeenglishlessons.com

If you want to travel the world while teaching English, it's a good idea to have tricks like this up your sleeve.   For more ideas, write to Steve at freeenglishlessons@gmail.com
